UNCTAD is supporting the preparations for launching the first phase of a National BioTrade Programme in Venezuela, envisaged for the end of 2005.  This phase would include activities such as:

  • the adoption of BioTrade principles and criteria;
  • the identification of priorities and export potential derived from sustainable use of biodiversity; and
  • the preparation of a national strategy that would identify objectives and guide the activities of the programme. T

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) jointly with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) are leading the process, in cooperation with relevant actors at national level.

In addition to the MCT and MARN, the UNDP office in Caracas, the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and the UNCTAD/BioTrade Initiative provide financial support to this first phase.
