During
the past three decades medicinal
plants and their derivatives have played an important role in the
strategy for rural development in Colombia. This is mainly
because of four main aspects: first, the great biodiversity of plants
with medicinal characteristics available in the country (more than
6,000); second, the growing market for plant-based products; third the
cultural importance attached to the use of plants by indigenous
communities, and fourth the ecological relevance of medicinal plants

support from BTFP, the
BioTrade Programme in
Colombia in joint collaboration with Proexport is
supporting the value chain of Natural Ingredients for Cosmetics
and Pharmaceutics with the following objective:
To facilitate and strengthen the development of
the Natural Ingredients value chain for Pharmaceuticals and
Cosmetics in Colombia, with the aim of exporting, and taking into
consideration economic, technological, environmental & social
sustainability criteria.
