Colombia has a wide diversity of native tropical flowers and foliages,
which currently are exported to the USA and Europe.
Flowers production has been based on agricultural systems that contain a
wide diversity of native species. Most part of the production of flowers
is based on agriculture following organic standards.
The supply of foliages that accompanies export flowers is short and is
sometimes imported from countries like Costa Rica.
Through the BTFP, the BioTrade Programme promotes exports of heliconias
and foliages involving sustainability criteria through specific trade
promotion activities. It involves the inclusion of good practices for
the cultivation of flowers, identification of new foliages and promote
sustainable wild collection.
