The
BioTrade Programme of Bolivia (Programa Nacional de
Biocomercio Sostenible - PNBS) was launched in 2003 with the
objective of stimulating the production and trade of biodiversity
products and services following ecological, social and financial
sustainability criteria. The latter aims to strengthen local
economies related to biodiversity and to create linkages with
national and international markets.
Since
July 2005, the NGO Fundación Amigos de la Naturaleza (FAN) is the
coordinating agency for the programme. It interacts closely with Bolivia's Vice-Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
Ongoing
activities involve joint projects with CAN, CAF, GEF and UNCTAD.
The National BioTrade
Programme in Bolivia has played an active role in the
regional activities developed under the Andean BioTrade Programme, the Amazon BioTrade and BTFP. To date the
PNBS focuses its efforts on the following sectors:
-
Natural ingredients
-
Fauna: Caiman
