global and country-focused perspective on some of the most recent
developments in the biotrade arena and BTFP's specific contributions.

Issue
5: September 2006
This issue features the advances on market
differentiation of BioTrade products through the use of Distinctive
Signs and the BioTrade verification framework. It also highlights
the BTFP's contribution to facilitate equitable sharing of benefits
in BioTrade activities through the elaboration of practical
guidelines. This newsletter reports on the collaboration between the
Brazilain company Natura, the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio)
and BTFP as well as the creation of a business association of
natural products in Colombia. Finally this issue covers the interest
in BioTrade in the European Market of Tropical Flowers and Foliage. |

4: July 2006
This issue reports on
BioTrade's Business roundtable that brought together exporters and
importers from the world over for a lively discussion on the
importance of biodiversity and the challenges that lie ahead. In our
country focus we report on the results of the field-testing of
management plans presented in the BTFP regional workshop held in
Ecuador and the exciting news of the formulation of Central
America's first national BioTrade Programme, among others. |

3: May 2006
This COP Special gives
overview of BioTrade at the Eighth Meeting of the Conference of the
Parties (COP-8) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD),
held in Curitiba, Brazil. The Newsletter includes highlights of the
participation of UNCTAD's Secretary General at the COP-8, BioTrade
featuring in the Cop-8 decisions, a summary of BTFP's contributions
and outcomes, as well as the high-level gastronomic event hosted by
the Andean Community (CAN). |

Issue 2: March 2006
In our country focus, we report on the six successful
companies that have been granted the Safe Food Quality certification
for BioTrade in Peru, plus the new funds that have been awarded to
research and development of natural ingredients for the private
sector in Colombia. Further news includes the sustainable trade of
vicuņa fibre from Bolivia, and the field testing results from
Ecuador of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants standard. |

Issue 1: January 2006
This month's issue brings you up to date with recent
developments in the the revision of the EU Novel Food Regulation (NFR)
and the certification of BioTrade products. It also highlights the
BTFP's work in differentiating native biodiversity-based products
through distinctive signs and appellations of origin. Finally, it
offers a close-up on country activities, notably the sustainable
trade of Lagarto in Bolivia and the development of the Ecotourism
sector in Uganda. |
